4200 Characters
is a graphic novel imprint that was a decade in the making.

It began as a question that Dreaming King's founder, Avi Lewin, asked himself in 2011:
"Could I write a self-contained story in 30 tweets or less?".

Art from Unlucky Last. A young woman wearing a bonnet and 1900s clothing writes a letter with a quill at a small table by a window.

Back in 2011 a tweet was 140 characters, which meant 30 tweets was four thousand two hundred characters.

Avi wrote a few stories in the 4200 Characters format between 2011 and 2013. Then life happened, and after a number of failed attempts to find an artist to get the project off the ground he shelved it all until late 2021.

Art from Unlucky Last. A caveman explores a cave using a stick on fire to view the handprints on the cave wall.

After laying out his story Unlucky Last into graphic novel format himself, Avi began looking for an artist again to work with him. Shortly after, he met Rizky online.

Eleven months later 4200 Characters vol. 0001 was complete.
