Dreaming King

Q: What is Dreaming King?
A: Dreaming King is a media production company. We believe in telling stories that give the audience what they want but not what they expect.

Q: Who founded Dreaming King?
A: Avi Lewin.

Q: When was Dreaming King founded?
A: Dreaming King has existed in name since August 2008, when Avi registered the dreamingking.com address and trademark for his short film Left Unspoken. The company was formally incorporated in 2016 as Dreaming King Productions Pty Ltd.

Q: What does the name "Dreaming King" mean?
A: It is a reference to one of Avi's favourite films. See if you can figure out which one.

Q: Where is Dreaming King located?
A: Brisbane, Australia.

Q: Can I work at Dreaming King?
A: Maybe one day, but we are not currently hiring.

Writers & Artists

Q: I am a writer or artist and I would like to work with Dreaming King. Where can I submit samples of my work?

4200 Characters

Q: What is 4200 Characters?
A: 4200 Characters is Dreaming King's first graphic novel imprint.

Q: What is unique about 4200 Characters?
A: Each 4200 Characters story follows the same rules:
1. It must be less than or equal to four thousand two hundred characters (letters, numbers, and spaces) in length; and
2. It must be told completely in one volume only (in the comics industry this is called a "one-shot").

Q: When and how was 4200 Characters created?
A: 4200 Characters began as a question that Avi asked himself in early 2011: "Could I write a self-contained story in 30 tweets or less?". Back then a tweet was 140 characters, which meant 30 tweets was four thousand two hundred characters.

Q: What is Dreaming King's goal for the 4200 Characters imprint?
A: To grow to 4200 Volumes by making the best one-shot graphic novels in the world.

Q: Will the art style for every 4200 Characters volume be the same?
A: No. 4200 Characters volumes can be any genre and any art style.

Q: What is the current volume for 4200 Characters?
A: Please check the 4200 Characters page. It is always up to date.
